A través de un comunicado, la Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (PROFEPA) rescató a un cachorro de Puma en Nuevo Casas Grandes y a una hembra de Jaguar juvenil abandonada en el municipio de Guerrero, con garras y colmillos limados, ambos se encuentran en buenas condiciones físicas, tras ser atendidos y ubicados bajo un Programa Intensivo de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre en el estado de Chihuahua.
En diferentes eventos, personal de inspección de la PROFEPA atendió ambos casos. Primero, habitantes de una zona rural del municipio de Casas Grandes, solicitaron la intervención de esta Procuraduría, ya que deambulaba por el lugar un cachorro de Puma y presumían que andaría cerca la madre, posteriormente, se percataron que el ejemplar se encontraba solo.
Los inspectores recibieron el cachorro de Puma (Puma concolor). Tras verificar su estado de salud, calcularon una edad de aproximadamente tres meses, además que no se encontró herida alguna, lesión o huellas de maltrato, síntomas o signos de enfermedad a simple vista.
En el segundo caso, elementos de la Policía Federal dieron aviso a inspectores de la PROFEPA respecto a un ejemplar de Jaguar (Panthera onca) encontrado en el municipio de Guerrero, dentro de una jaula pequeña.
Especialistas en vida silvestre de la PROFEPA revisaron al felino: se trata de una hembra juvenil, de alrededor de dos años de edad, sin garras y colmillos; presentó desnutrición. Detectaron que fue criada totalmente en cautiverio, lo cual impide reincorporarla a su hábitat.
Se le proporcionó alimento y un lugar donde la pudieran tener, por lo que fue incorporada a un Programa Intensivo de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre en el estado, al igual que al Puma, donde son atendidos y en el que tienen un espacio propio para cumplir con las condiciones de trato digno y respetuoso a los animales.
Cabe mencionar que el Jaguar se encuentra dentro de la Norma Oficial Mexicana NOM–059–SEMARNAT-2010, bajo la categoría de especie En Peligro de Extinción (P).
